Instructor: We are particularly pleased to introduce Lauren Evans Lang, who will be providing this year’s teacher training. Lauren is a teacher of adult ESOL students in a privately funded family literacy program in Loudoun County, Virginia. She conducts workshops around the state for adult ESOL teachers through the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center. Lauren has been teaching adult English language learners for 11 years, and has been a teacher for 20 years. She previously held positions in the adult ESOL program of Fairfax County Public Schools, as a Reading Specialist with Loudoun County Public Schools, and as a Specific Learning Disabilities Specialist with Chesterfield County Public Schools. She holds a Bachelors degree in Specific Learning Disabilities from Ohio State University and a Masters in teaching reading from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Training schedule:

 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Session One - Morning session
12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Lunch (provided by ESLIM)
 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Session Two - Afternoon session

Format change: Please note that these sessions are structured differently than in previous years. Volunteer teachers are offered a choice of which day they wish to attend training instead of attending on two different days to get the full two-session sequence. However, if someone is unable to stay for an entire day, they may split the two-part sequence by attending one morning session (9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and one afternoon session (1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) on each day of training. If you would like this split option, please include that in your registration request.

Registration: Please register to attend no later than three days prior to each session (by Aug. 25; Sept. 15). Registrations should be addressed to office@eslim.org, subject: Training, and include your name, e-mail address, phone number, Program site, and which training day you prefer. Your registration will be confirmed by e-mail.

Deadlines: To attend the August 28 session, you must register by August 25
To attend the September 18 session, you must register by September 15

Cost: There is no cost to volunteers who are part of ESLIM network program sites, who will be given priority. Attendees from other networks will be admitted on a space available basis at a suggested contribution of $15 per person.
