About ESLIM
Our
History
ESL & Immigrant Ministries began in 1989 in the basement
of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church with 3 teachers
and 25 students.
Today, ESL & Immigrant Ministries is a 501(c)(3) corporation
and has grown to include 20 locations in Northern Virginia
with enrollments totalling 2000 students and 300 volunteers.
Classes are offered twice a year for 10 to 12 weeks, every
day of the week, both daytime and evening.
Our Mission
The mission of ESL & Immigrant Ministries is twofold:
First, we believe that a way in which we can practically
serve our neighbors in a community where one in four homes
speaks a language other than English is to teach English.
We believe that by teaching English as a second language
we are offering "new Americans" a practical
skill that will empower them to be full participants in
their communities and in society.
Second, our desire is that students who come to study
English will find in this ministry the hope, dignity,
faith and understanding that they seek.
